Course Requirements

This is a summary of the ILHP course requirements. Students complete both the degree requirements of their major and the special requirements of the ILHP. These requirements consist of a combination of existing and new courses, a Leadership Development Workshop series, and special enrichment activities.

3 Technical Writing
Followed with additional writing and presentation activities throughout the program.
Substitutes in the major for the current required course, College Writing II
3 EGN 1002 - Fundamentals of Engineering
Introduction to design, innovation, and integrated engineering and computer systems.
Fundamentals of Engineering is a required course for all Engineering students.
3 Biology for Engineers
Principles of cell and systems biology and applications to engineering and computer science.
A new course. Serves as an elective or substitutes for another required course in the major departmental choice.
3 EGN 4600 - Engineering Economics
Basic principles of engineering finance.
An existing course. Serves as an elective or substitutes for another required course in the major departmental choice.
3 Green Engineering
Emphasis on innovation and design of sustainable integrated engineering - computer systems.
A new course. Serves as an elective or substitutes for another required course in the major departmental choice.
3 Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Elements and principles of creativity, critical thinking, innovation, entrepreneurship, intellectual property, business and financial plans, and marketing. Students develop and present to potential sponsors a proposal for a venture funded team project. Entrepreneur/Industry mentors provided for each student team.
A new honors course. Substitutes for the existing required course in the major, Senior Design I.
3 Venture Funded Team Project
Student teams execute their venture funded team projects, with oral and written reports of their results.
A new course. Substitutes for the existing required course in the major, Senior Design II.
4 Leadership Development Workshops
A four-semester sequence of 1-credit workshops over the sophomore and junior years, emphasizing elements of leadership and leadership development; outside speakers and team projects and activities. Electronic portfolio required; S/U grading.
Additional Honors Requirement
1-3 Enrichment Experience
A semester-long internship, research, service learning, or international experience. Credit variable, depending upon project scope and student needs and interests; S/U grading.
