Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

  1. Q- Who can apply to the ILHP?
    A- Students majoring in engineering who have applied and been accepted to FAU with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and an SAT score of 1100 or higher are sent a letter of invitation by the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

  2. Q- Is the program only open to incoming freshmen?
    A- No, students already enrolled at FAU with an engineering major will be considered as well as eligible transfer students.

  3. Q- What is involved in the final selection process?
    A- The final selection of applicants for the ILHP will be based on student's cumulative evaluation of their leadership skills, innovative capabilities and academic performance as evidenced in their application documents, recommendations, interview, standardized test results, and/or cumulative grade point average.

  4. Q- How many students are accepted into the program each fall?
    A- Between 30 and 50 students will be accepted into the program each fall depending on the number of eligible candidates.

  5. Q- Who are the college's industry partners?
    A- The College of Engineering and Computer Science has a strong partnership with it's Executive Advisory Council. The council is comprised of approximately 25 top level engineering and business executives from companies throughout South Florida.

  6. Q- How will the college's industry partners help with the ILHP?
    A- The college's industry partners want to hire graduates that are prepared for the workplace of tomorrow. To help in this process members of the executive advisory board will provide real world hands-on projects, mentor students, team teach with college faculty, help to arrange guest lectures, provide internships and consider students for positions after graduation.

  7. Q- What is unique about the ILHP?
    A- The ILHP is designed to graduate students with special skills in engineering innovation leadership by providing students with an enhanced background and training in innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, and communication. The program will focus on providing a broad set of industry relevant experiences. These experiences will be delivered through a set of practical work and research opportunities, guest lectures and a set of new academic programs to develop a students innovative spirit.

  8. Q- How is the ILHP different from what other colleges of engineering offer?
    A- Many colleges of engineering have added a course or activity in leadership, or innovation, or entrepreneurship. But we have seen no other offerings that provide this background and training through a comprehensive, coordinated program, as we have done.

  9. Q- What will I receive at graduation?
    A- You will receive your diploma from the Department in which you majored and an Innovation Leadership Scholar's certificate from the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

  10. Q- What can I expect after graduation?
    A- You can expect to be among the most sought after candidates in your graduating class.
