Guest Lectures
The College of Engineering and Computer Science offers an Innovation Leadership Distinguished Lecture Series. When the next lecture is scheduled selected students, faculty, staff and guests will be sent an invitation.
The first lecture in this series was titled "Re-engineering the Curriculum" with speaker Ioannis Miaoulis, Ph.D., President and Director of the Boston Museum of Science.
Abstract: Although humans design and construct the majority of the objects we use in day–to–day life, the current K–12 curriculum focuses very little on how these items are created. Introducing engineering as the new discipline in the curriculum offers a wonderful project–based learning vehicle for the entire K–12 spectrum that brings to life not only mathematics and the sciences but connects them with social studies, language and the arts. Dr. Miaoulis will describe the value of including engineering in the formal curriculum and give examples of success in various learning environments. He will discuss the curriculum content for the elementary, middle and high school levels and present how engineering makes all disciplines engaging for both boys and girls, and for all types of learners.
